After suffering a lopsided loss to rival Fort Myers High School earlier in the season, the North Fort Myers High School softball team delivered the response every championship team dreams about.

On April 30, 2026, the Red Knights stormed back from an early deficit and exploded for nine runs in the fifth inning to defeat Fort Myers 12-8 and capture the FHSAA 5A District 11 Championship.

The rivalry showdown had all the intensity expected from two of Southwest Florida’s top softball programs. Fort Myers entered the championship game after beating North Fort Myers 21-5 earlier in the season, but this time the Red Knights were ready for the moment.

Fort Myers jumped out early and appeared to seize control midway through the game, leading 8-3 after a huge five-run fourth inning. But North Fort Myers refused to fold.

Instead, the Red Knights answered with one of the most explosive innings of their season.

Trailing by five entering the bottom of the fifth, North Fort Myers erupted for nine runs to completely swing the momentum and stun the Green Wave. The Red Knights finished the night with 13 hits while overcoming five defensive errors to secure the district crown.

The victory pushed North Fort Myers to 22-3 on the season and extended the team’s winning streak to five games heading into regional play.

Even in defeat, Fort Myers showed why it had been one of the most dangerous offensive teams in the area all season. The Green Wave collected 15 hits in the championship matchup and battled throughout the night before North’s fifth-inning rally proved too much to overcome.

For North Fort Myers, however, the night belonged to the Red Knights.

Players poured onto the field after the final out as fans celebrated a district championship that felt even sweeter given the rivalry, the postseason stakes, and the redemption storyline behind it all.

The win wasn’t just about a trophy — it was about resilience.

North Fort Myers took a tough regular-season loss, learned from it, and responded when the lights were brightest. Championship teams do exactly that.

Now, with momentum fully on their side, the Red Knights headed into the regional playoffs believing they could make an even deeper postseason run.
