For years, fans of Evangelical Christian School girls basketball have watched Nalah Smith dominate the paint, protect the rim, and elevate the Sentinels into one of the top programs in Southwest Florida. Now, her hard work has officially paid off.
Smith has signed a full scholarship to continue her basketball career at Brown University, becoming one of the latest ECS athletes to take their talents to the Division I level.
The 6-foot-2 center leaves behind one of the most impactful careers in recent ECS girls basketball history.
During her senior season, Smith helped lead the Sentinels to the FHSAA Class 2A Final Four while establishing herself as one of the premier post players in Florida. She averaged 12.4 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 blocks per game during the year and earned Southwest Florida Girls Basketball Player of the Year honors.
Her impact went far beyond the stat sheet.
Smith became known throughout the state for her physical presence, rim protection, rebounding ability, and leadership on both ends of the floor. One of the defining moments of her career came during the regional final against First Baptist, when she exploded for a dominant triple-double performance with 22 points, 13 rebounds, and 10 blocks to help send ECS to the state semifinals.
According to MaxPreps, Smith finished her career averaging:
- 16.2 points per game
- 11.6 rebounds per game
- 3.6 blocks per game
- 1.8 assists per game
- 1.6 steals per game
She also recorded multiple double-doubles throughout her career and consistently ranked among Florida’s top players in rebounding and shot blocking.
Recruiting analysts took notice quickly.
Prep Girls Hoops described Smith as a player with “the best size and length at the event,” praising her ability to control the paint defensively while dominating the glass offensively. Scouts highlighted her versatility, physicality, and ability to alter games around the rim.
Off the court, Smith represented ECS with class, humility, and consistency. Her journey from standout local athlete to Ivy League scholarship signee is another reminder of the level of talent continuing to rise throughout Southwest Florida girls basketball.
At Brown, Smith will join one of the top academic institutions in the country while competing in Division I basketball at the highest collegiate level. The opportunity reflects not only her talent on the floor, but also the discipline and dedication she has shown throughout her career.
For ECS, Smith leaves behind a legacy of winning, toughness, and leadership.
For Southwest Florida, she continues a growing trend of local athletes proving they can compete — and succeed — on the national stage.
And for Brown University, the Bears are getting a player who knows how to change games.
One rebound.
One block.
One possession at a time.
